I grabbed these limited-edition Kroger Pigs in a Blanket chips on a whim at the store—pigs in a blanket as a potato chip flavor? Yeah, I was highly dubious right from the start. I’ve tried a ton of weird stuff over the years, but this one felt like a stretch.

First hit: the smell. Savory, kinda like burnt roast with a cheesy edge, but one whiff had Al over here looking like she’d smelled stinky fish. She was not impressed. Expectations? Pretty low at that point.

Then we crunched in. Al declared that mustard comes through strong upfront—real zing—then that beefy hot dog flavor kicks in after. and reminded her of those Costco food-court hot dogs (minus the wait). In a stunning reversal of roles, she actually liked these chips, while I was a bit more skeptical

“I got none of that,” was my response to her thoughts on these chips. What they taste like, I couldn’t tell. What I can say is don’t smell them first.

Verdict: Surprisingly solid for a novelty chip. Way better than I expected, especially if you’re into that classic game-day nostalgia, but they don’t taste anything like actual pigs in a blanket. Grab a bag before they’re gone if you’re curious; skip if funky smells send you running.
